Key Responsibilities of the Role
- Submittals Management: Lead end-to-end submittals for materials, products, systems, and mock-ups; ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with contract documents, design intent, and codes. Track approvals and resolve issues with design teams, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- RFI Review: Primary reviewer for RFIs with emphasis on technical accuracy, constructability, schedule, and budget impact; escalate complex items with clear recommendations.
- BCAR Quality and Coordination: Own BCAR quality items, ensure documentation and traceability; coordinate BCAR reviews (shop drawings, method statements, quality plans) and verify BCAR compliance during construction; support closeout and handover.
- Information Management: Maintain master submittals register; enforce version control; build libraries of technical data, certifications, test reports, and supplier manuals; standardize formats and approval workflows.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work with Project Managers, Site Engineers, Design Team, BIM/VDC, Procurement, and Quality & Safety to align submittals with milestones.
- Quality Assurance: Verify contractual and regulatory compliance; partake in internal audits and client-facing reviews.
- Risk & Problem Solving: Identify conflicts or non-conformances early; propose practical, buildable solutions; monitor submittal-related risks.
- Reporting & Improvement: Provide status dashboards; contribute to process improvements for information management and quality control.
- Mentoring: Guide junior staff and remote team members; foster accuracy, accountability, and proactive communication.
Your Qualifications and Key Criteria
- Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent site experience).
- 5+ years in construction, with proven submittals, RFIs, and project coordination.
- Strong understanding of drawings, specifications, product data, and installation methods.
- Demonstrated experience with BCAR quality items and BCAR coordination.
- Proficient with document control, submittal platforms, version control; strong organisational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal skills; ability to convey technical information clearly.
- MS Office Suite; experience with construction management software and RF/RFI tracking. BIM/VDC coordination experience is advantageous.
- Certifications (Preferred): PMP, CIM, or equivalent, and/or BCAR-related training.
